Traditionally the dominant Word Processor for attorneys has been WordPerfect's, then Novell's, now Corel's WordPerfect product and while WordPerfect's market share, even among attorneys has shrunk to a fraction, there are still millions of legacy Word Perfect documents out there.
One option for doing the conversion is to download and install OpenOffice, a free suite of applications that includes a word processor that is compatible with both WordPerfect and Word. You can open your WordPerfect document in OpenOffice, then save it in Word format and then open it in Word. An extra step, yes, but OpenOffice is free and you may find it useful in other ways as well.
